Sports Injury & Rehabilitation Centre: Enriching Lives through Physical Independence

The most common injuries which are generally observed in case of sports include injuries to ligaments and the tough bands connecting bones in a joint. When these ligaments gets stretched suddenly they past their limits and gets deformed or tears them. If we talk about strains they are injuries to muscle fibers or tendons, which anchor muscles to bones. Strains could be defined as state of pulled muscles which has resulted due to over usage of muscles. The ultimate result includes the tears in the muscle fibers or tendons.

The sports injuries which are mostly seen in athletes includes sprained ankle which typically occurs when the foot turns inward. Due to this turning stretches or tears the ligaments on the outside of the ankle get relatively weak.  We recommend going for regular exercises to prevent loss of flexibility and strength and re-injury. You can ask your doctor or physical therapist to help you know what kinds of exercise you should do.

One should start with a gentle warm-up to prevent common sports injuries. Once you get warmed up it increases blood flow to the muscles, gets you more flexible, and could decrease injuries. So whether it's hiking, running, or team sports, you should do some pre-participation training by lightly working with the relevant muscle groups in the weeks before the activity. Whenever you have muscle fatigue condition, it actually takes away all your protective mechanisms and really increases your risk of all injuries.
